Commentary

This pastel was shown as Wild Flowers in Twachtman's 1903 estate sale, from which it was purchased by Julian Alden Weir. In 1907 it was among a group of works Weir lent to Twachtman's memorial exhibition at the Lotos Club. Here Twachtman noted the contrast between the flutter of the windblown pink flowers and the newly sprouted leaves, which cling more tenaciously to branches and stems.
