Commentary

This was possibly the pastel Sunlight through the Trees, included in Twachtman's solo show at Wunderlich in 1891 (no. 17) and at the American Art Galleries in 1893 (no. 29). The title fits this image in which trees are articulated more by negative space and effects of light and shade rather than by line and detail.
