Commentary

One of the twenty-four charcoal sketches Twachtman sent to his son Alden, recording paintings he created in Gloucester in the summer of 1900, this drawing depicts Gloucester (OP.1408), an oil on canvas representing a view from Banner Hill across Wonson's Cove toward Rocky Neck, with the town of Gloucester in the distance. In the drawing, above the image, Twachtman wrote the painting's dimensions accurately (height before width): "25 x 30."
