Commentary
One of the twenty-four charcoal sketches Twachtman sent to his son Alden, after paintings he created in Gloucester in the summer of 1900, this drawing depicts Gloucester Fishermen's Houses (OP.1411). To the right of the drawing, Twachtman wrote: "25 x 25," indicating the painting's square format, and "red house," which is the title he used for the painting in his 1901 solo exhibitions in Chicago and Cincinnati.
