My dear White–
Will a ceiling eight feet high be too low in a room twenty-six feet long and twenty feet wide? I am putting up a small summer house the outside like this [picture]. I’m dreadfully afraid that eight feet will be too low for length and width of room! It will show timbers eight inches deep by four thick and 2 ft by 6 in apart which will add somewhat to height. I saw a barn with same dimentions [sic] and it looked dreadfully low. There will be an open chimney of stone and the mason wants to make the opening of fire-place 3 feet 6 in. square; will it not be better to make opening a little longer than high—say 3 feet 8 in. by 3 feet.
Please let me know about this and relieve my mind and I shall be ever greatfully [sic] obliged to you.
Sincerely,
J. H. Twachtman
